The action plan (download link is below) is a great tool to help plan how pastors/leaders will measure the success of the coaching sessions. It will clarify exactly why you want to be coached and helps your church to know how this coaching relationship will benefit the ministry you are engaged in.
This tool will help you be really specific on what you want to do, be, or have. This will also provide a useful document for reviews at the beginning of each coaching meeting.
At your first coaching session discuss your Action Plan. It would be good for you to complete this Action Plan prior to your first session. Use the Action Plan Tool to state what you want to achieve from the coaching. What are your reasons for wanting coaching and what do you want to gain as a result? What do you hope will be different about your situation or yourself? Get really specific about the outcome. Use the S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time) scale to frame your desired outcome. How measureable is it? What you tell you that you have achieved it? How achievable is it? What makes it a realistic outcome? And is it set in time? When do you hope to have achieved this outcome?
Once you have clearly stated your desired outcome, complete the rest of the Action Plan Tool filling in each category. Make sure you discuss this Action Plan with your coach.
