kingdomGod has called us to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth (Matthew 28:18-20). People must hear the gospel in order to enter into a right relationship with God. This commission from Jesus requires the broken and fervent praying of God's people. If the gospel is going to penetrate the darkness of this world, God's people must plead for this. Many times a believer may feel overwhelmed by this call to pray. There are many nations, many needs, and many opportunities to pray. How can you pray about the spread of the gospel across the nations? With so much to pray about, how can you pray powerfully and effectively in this area? The Great Commission Prayer Plan has been devised to help you pray powerfully and effectively for the spread of the gospel.
open doorsThe foundational principle of reaching people with the gospel of Jesus Christ is that we must pray for them. If we want to see lost people enter into a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, we must pray for their salvation. But how should we pray? Here is a plan using the acrostic D.O.O.R.S. This plan can be used in a variety of ways: a believer praying for his or her own witnessing, praying for those you are training to share the gospel, a pastor and other believers praying for the outreach and witness of a church.

missionsPraying for the lost requires a burden for them. You must have a passion for their salvation. This truth is illustrated in Romans 10:1, "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved." Paul states that his heart's desire was to see Israel saved. He longed for the Jewish people to turn to Jesus Christ in faith and repentance. He yearned for them to turn from their self-righteousness and to Jesus and Jesus alone. This was his heart's desire. How can you cultivate a passion for the lost? What can you do to develop this passion that will fuel your praying? This study guide is designed to help you see God for this passion for the lost.

Many people wonder, how do we reach the lost for Christ?   Where do we begin?   What is our first task?   As churches we have agreed that our missional task begins with prayer.   We are "to call upon God for such an outpouring of his Spirit that his people will be assured of his love through his Word, seek to please the Saviour in all things, manifest the godly life and be filled with prayerful and sacrificial compassion for the lost in all the world."

Organic Outreach

Most churches would agree that evangelism is a priority. The CRCA declares that reaching the lost is central to its calling as a church: we are a church reforming to reach the lost for Christ. But so few churches and Christians are bearing fruit. In fact, most churches are either maintaining the status quo or are in decline.
