This talk will focus on a few of the contrast community statements discussed in my first plenary and apply them to the church's relationship with refugees. Hospitality is the most prevalent metaphor used to describe church-based refugee activism in Australia and Canada today. Yet, the metaphor's contemporary connotations are far from prophetic, often with the result that the church looks undistinctive. We will look at Walter Brueggemann's description of a prophetic community to discuss what the church can do in this area to have a prophetic presence.
