Ministry of the Word - Training Course

Have you ever been asked to give a short devotion, a Bible talk to youth, or even been asked if you’re interested in writing a sermon? If so, it’s possible that the very idea has created fear and anxiety. You may have asked the question – where do I even start? 

Communicating God’s Word to others is both a tremendous privilege, and a great responsibility. If we are called on to do this, we want to be diligent in our preparation, and give our best for the glory of God.

Ministry of the Word is a training course equipping people to give Bible talks in a variety of contexts. Using the latest module from The Way (produced by the Reformed Theological College) these 10 monthly training sessions will provide some of the core skills in studying the Word, crafting a message, and delivering a talk. 

Ministry of the Word is designed for everyone who is currently engaged in this work and wants to grow their skills, those who want to be equipped to use their gifts in the future, and those considering full time ministry of the Word. 

Each month participants will prepare for the training session by watching some online videos, presented by men experienced in preparing and delivering messages from God’s Word. This preparation will take about 60 mins. During the training sessions we will further discussing what we have learned through these videos and begin putting this into practise. Each training session will go for about 90 mins. Training sessions will be facilitated by Clinton Berends, the Ministry Development Coordinator of the CRCA. 

Towards the end of the year you will also be given the opportunity to prepare your own Bible talks and present them to the rest of the group in a supportive and encouraging environment. 

By the end of this course you will have:

• Been given an outline for preparing a talk
• Learnt how to study a passage to discover its main message
• Developed methods of applying God’s Word faithfully
• Learnt how to put an outline of a talk together
• Developed skills in communicating in a way that engages the minds and hearts of those who hear
• Practised these skills by developing and delivering and message from God’s Word. 

This course will be run online (via Zoom) with participants across Australia. The cost is $50 to cover materials provided by The Way. 

Ministry of the Word kicks off for 2023 on Tuesday March 28^th, at 7.30pm (Melbourne time). Registrations are now open until Monday 20^th March. Upon registration you will be given instructions on how to access the training material.
